Description

Opening for Seasonal Grounds position - this is a full-time, 40 hour a week position from March through October.  The work hours will be 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

 

 

 

Candidates must be able to pass a Physical assessment and demonstrate the ability to do "Medium Work," which is defined as the following:  Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

 

Employees in Seasonal Grounds positions work outside most of the day in all types of weather, work with multiple pieces of commercial lawn equipment and power tools, will be required to get up and down from equipment frequently as well as sit on equipment for extended periods of time while mowing.  This position involves physical labor on a consistent and regular basis. Bending, stooping, lifting, pulling, gripping, digging, and climbing are normal activities of the job. 

 

 

Basic Job Description:

 

  • Ability to operate mowing equipment (i.e. mower, trimmer, edger, blower) to keep district facilities safe and well maintained for students, staff and patrons.

  • Trim shrubs and trees in a timely manner to promote growth and improve appearance.

  • Assist in maintaining all mulch and rock landscape beds to keep areas free from weeds and debris.

  • Care for seed, sod, plants, shrubs and trees to ensure new growth.

  • Keep grounds free of trash, empty barrels, and remove items from grounds that could cause damage to district property.

  • Redistribute playground mulch to ensure student safety while at play.

  • Assist Grounds Supervisor or Level II Groundskeeper in playground equipment repair in a timely manner to ensure student safety while at play.

  • Work as needed on snow removal to get a building ready for operation, which may include early morning, late night, weekend, or holiday work.

  • Work in extreme weather conditions such as winter cold or summer heat as needed.  Takes appropriate precautions in such conditions to ensure personal safety such as wearing appropriate clothing or taking frequent water breaks.

  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner.  While at the same time understanding the majority of our duties must be executed based on a schedule and evaluation of our property’s needs.

  • Ability to safely drive a truck while pulling a loaded utility trailer.

  • Ability to use and general knowledge of hand and power tools for the completion of grounds projects.

 

Other Job Functions

  • Attend meetings or work overtime as requested by supervisors or district administration.

  • Be respectful and courteous to parents, students and staff.

  • Dress and grooming should be appropriate.  Wear proper uniform and name badge.

  • Read and respond to email in a timely manner.

  • Be comfortable with the use of computers and other district technology to facilitate communication with district staff and administration.

  • Complete all required training.
