Purpose Statement

 

The job of Manager - Network and Infrastructure is done for the purpose/s of serving as a leader in the Department of Technology managing the District’s technology infrastructure, including but not limited to the data center (computer and storage), systems administration, e-mail and messaging, voice/data, cybersecurity, cabling systems, physical security and audio/visual systems; ensuring problems and issues related to systems, networks and application availability and stability are resolved in a timely fashion; managing projects and coordinating with other district leaders, and assisting with the development and deployment of departmental strategic goals.

 

This job reports to the Chief Technology Officer.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to routinely upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: strong leadership and management skills, demonstrated customer service skills, excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication, strong project management skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: knowledge of current practices and technologies, including but not limited to network administration, systems administration, telecommunications administration, technical client services administration, communication and application deployment. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of VoIP systems, phone systems, server administration, server virtualization, storage virtualization, complex corporate-type networks, cyber security, physical security and audio visual systems. Knowledge of ITIL processes and service management tools is preferred.

Responsibility

 

Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational policies to achieve organizational objectives; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; supervising the use of funds. Utilization of significant resources from other work units is routinely required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

 

Working Environment

 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing.  The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment.

 

Experience      Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
